How to make your own yogurt

                                                  Mint, pineapple and yogurt smoothies.

Making your own yogurt is very easy that after you make your first batch, you'll ask yourself why you are not making it after all this time.

Imagine the possibilities once you have your own plain yogurt, you can make Smoothies, granola and oatmeal mix, yogurt ice cream, or simply yogurt drink.
Yogurt is pricey and you have to make your own to enjoy it ad infinitum times.

The third time you make your yogurt using the previous one you made as seed, you are already making your own yogurt bacteria. Reserve some spoonfuls for your next batch so you need not go to groceries next time for some plain yogurt.

If you need it to be greek-style or cheesy in texture, just strain the water content in a cloth while the yogurt sets in the fridge.

Plain yogurt has no additives and it has lots of live bacteria. Full Cream milk has fats which the bacteria feasts on. If freshly gathered milk is available, go for it. Be it from cow or goat or carabao. That would be lovely.

You will need:
Plain yogurt
Full cream milk
Ice box or container or yogurt maker

The Recipe:
In a container with lid, spoon 2 Tbsp of plain yogurt for every 500ml of full cream milk. Stir or not, it's up to you.
Put the yogurt container in a warmed container or icebox by putting bottles of hot water beside it and letting it stay for 4hours or more. (I have a yogurt maker so I get it right at 4hours). The secret is in creating a warm environment for the bacteria to enjoy the milk fats. The texture will be yogurty. It will not get rancid like ordinary milk when it's spoiled.

Remove from the icebox or yogurt maker. Let cool a bit and set in the fridge. Before serving, reserve 4 spoons in a clean jar for your next batch of 1L yogurt.
