YA Fiction: LOVE and other foreign words

Image
Love and other foreign words Erin McCahan Speak, 2014 This young adult novel came to my hands when I ordered online for the autobio of Jackie Chan. Of course, I love the title.  Anything about words capture me. And the author did not fail me in grabbing her book though the age-appropriateness (or mental or emotional appropriateness) of this book is just so far behind me.  I enjoyed the book though I got the ending early on because as I said, I am far ahead for this kind.  There are finest points in the book dissecting  "language of all sorts" that only a teenager like Josie can come up with which I wanted to quote here but I rather not because they are the icing to this piece.  Coming-of-age, over-thinking, experiencing love and lost friendships, STYX (No, I'm more of Bread person). This is a warm read for a day.

The Time Traveler's Wife

The Time Traveler’s Wife By Audrey Niffenegger 2003, debut novel I saw this movie (2009) a long time ago and wanted to read the book right away. The story line is so compelling that I wanted to deeply connect with the book from which the movie was based. It appears that this was the debut novel of the author, and I admired her writing more for a very good start. I have not yet checked whether she has other titles under her name. I love the poems sprinkled along the way as I read. I love how science was used in order not to make this one a magical realism. I love the rawness of the language employed by the author. She made me feel that these two people are in love like other humans, only challenged b...

FIRE: As I see it

Image
To give some continuity to the last romantic post I had about love letters, I am posting here a recent attempt on my part at romantic theme in my poem entitled, As I see it . Enjoy... Ours started with me taking a glance of you, which you paid with a gaze, I know. I could not take another glimpse of you but my third eye says you continued to stare. Ours continued when you remained staring and I could not repay equally. So, I batted another fleeting look which you magnetted and locked with your fixed glare. Ours all started with that glance, I know but you want me to see it all started with that magnetic glare. Perhaps,  I say. June 9, 2013 4:04PM Copyright Gerlie M.
