Fish Cake in two ways

Image
Why fishcake? Well, I was asked by everyone who partook the popular Korean foodfare called fishcake. Well I told tgem that it's not in ball form but flat so it's fishcake like pancake, and not like our fishball. In addition, our usual fishball  may shape like a ball but I doubt if there's fish in it but this fishcake tastes like fish. Do you think I got away with this clever explanation? Hahaha So, on the left side of the picture above, I had fishcakes in a soup base I made from mushroom granules, bellpepper and chili garlic sauce.  On the right side is a sweet spicy saucy version. I added hoisin sauce, chili garlic sauce, and some liquid to let cook the fishcake from the soup on the left. It was a hit. There we go with our fishcake adventure.

Chicken Feet and Fish Cake Chili Caramel Stew

MY FIRST POST FOR #foodflixflex2020 is ONE FORGETTABLE K MOVIE AND UNFORGETTABLE CHICKEN FEET SCENE. Well, I just got lucky for having gotten hold of fish cake, a Korean streetfood delicacy which has a Japanese origin (fish cake is Odeng in Korea is Oden in Japanese) which is like a fish ball to ours. The Koreans prefers to use Eomuk as part of preserving their own language. My brother who facilitated the buying of my fish cake exclaimed that oh, they make fish as cake? Well, my househelper asked me why they named it cake, I said, it must be because it's flat like the pancake.  Well, this would kick-off my first post to my friends' cook-off theme for September featuring cooking and film. Now, I have seen this forgettable Korean movie (the reason why I forgot its title) about a girl who aspires to be a mystery writer but always interferes or get caught up in n...

Hot pot or Shabu shabu at home

Image
Pechay, the native kind. Other green can be used. There is nothing like hot pot. First, because it's always a one-pot for us where we put all ingredients all at once and sip the soup. Second, we love the soup from slow cook like those in the bulalo and batchoy. Third, we have no patience for one at a time food trip. LOL Well, it is nice to try it once in a while, at home. Shabu shabu at home... Vermicelli or glass noodle is a better choice among noodles in the grocery.                          Fresh chicken eggs. Frozen items from the grocery: Tufo seafood and Fishcake.                          Kimchi on the side... The chili for the soup from China. I used the Vietnamese soup base bouillon for the non-chili soup. I do not like the peanut-vinegar accompaniment. (Even those prepared in the Beijing Shabu-shabu).       ...
