Sweet Granadilla, one fine garden find

Image
Sweet Granadilla a.k.a. Banana Granadilla is a sweet version of passionfruit.  I love its pale sweet scent, subtle sweetness. Sweet it is so that it can be eaten in a jiffy, so very unlike the passionfruit which has a challenging sourness and best paired with salt when eaten.  #exoticfruit #granadilla #bananagranadilla #sweetgranadilla  #passionfruit

IMAGINING MYSELF IN AN INTERVIEW by Brooklyn Book Festival

Image
In the last five years, I had been following the BKBF and one of the things I really wanted is to be interviewed because they usually make the author reveal the start of their love for books. Here, I adapted the questions fielded to one author. One Caveat, BKBF has no participation in this post and I used their banner and questions as an inspiration of this post. Had there been no pandemic, I would have been there to join them September last year. I am looking forward to joining BKBF in the future. The BKBF Interview: Gerlie Uy The BKBF Interview kicks off this week with author  Gerlie Uy . This weekly series of Q&As features some of this year’s Festival authors. BKBF interviews Gerlie Uy, author of Framed Words, Specks,    and most recently Guilty Your Humor, My Proofs Beyond Reasonable Doubt.   Where is your favorite place to read and why? Usually, I read in my bed which takes in natural light in the morning and has good lighting fixture for reading in the evening.  Who made read

Why Guilty Your Humor -- Anniv Fundraiser chose Children in Conflict with the Law and the children of Hda Esperanza?

Why the Children-in-conflict-with-the-law (CICL)?   The CICLs are our children who entangled with  the law whether it reached the court as a case or in petty crimes resolved in the barangay or PNP or the DSWD and did not escalate into a case. The latter children are referred as  children-at-risk. Republic Act 9344 and RA 10630 govern them and mandate the ideal services that should be given them, one of them a holding facility. In all points in time, these children should not be put in jail or PNP detention cells. They should be placed in the custody of their parents or in a holding facility dedicated to them and hopefully in a Bahay Pag-asa as envisioned by RA 10630. There are times when sending back the children to their family or community is not recomended, there comes in the purpose of a holdng facility. Because of the surge of CICLs and a painful experience of having to send back a child to a risky community just because we have no holding facility, our La Carlota Ci

Beef with Cucumbers in Bulgogi Sauce

Image
Bulgogi sauce is really a home favorite because it is sweet, as opposed to spicy chili-based ones which divides the house. This surprising dish made its appearance on our table when I used our homegrown cucumber. Cucumbers are often added to spicy dishes to cool down or temper the heat element of the dish. But it sure tasted great in the bulgogi sauce. Another kitchen uncovery!!! Sesame oil Minced Onions and garlic Beef tapa or sukiyaki cut Bulgogi sauce Broth or water Cucumber, cut lengthwise Sesame seeds to garnish Saute garlic and onions quickly and add beef. Stirfry for 2 minutes and add sauce and broth. Cook covered for 15 minutes, stirring from time to time. Add cucumbers and let cook for 3 minutes. Remove from fire. Garnish with sesame seeds. Serve hot over rice.
