Jurisprudence and Anchor to Ship, a wedding gift from Specks

Jurisprudence, a poem found in page 77, Book V of Specks,  an anthology of my poems published in 2018, is dedicated to a newfound friend whose wedding was upcoming when we met. She's a new lawyer and a bride-to-be who fuss a lot about her wedding prep. I was inspired by her genuine happiness in preparing for her wedding day, something I personally do not call for, ever. But then, inspiration to a poem can be found anywhere but it does not come when summoned intentionally because it comes naturally without any bidding. This is what happened with Jurisprudence, a poem from the point of view of a lawyer and Anchor To Ship, a poem from the point of view of a seafarer.
(By the way, fyi, Book V bears art as accompanying drawing in the transition page because all the poems included therein cannot be categorized together with the others, all artistic endeavors in poetry I included in this book.)

The pair can be made into a wedding vow actually. But if it cannot make it to the altar, it can be read during the reception. And if it cannot be read during the reception, it can be read during the cocktails. And still, if it cannot be heard at the cocktails, it can surely be read as a personal vow for couples, lawyers or seafarers or none of both.

For the benefit of the layman, jurisprudence is the word for a decided case that set a doctrine which can be applied to succeeding case. The exchange of vows and the contracts signed on the wedding day is the jurisprudence set by the couple. The Highest Tribunal here refers not to the Supreme Court of the Philippines but the Heavens, and Thee does not refer to the Justices but God.

As for the  Anchor to Ship, it is a seafarers way of expressing the desire to be tied to a marriage vow/contract and see everything after that together with the chosen one.

For Roxanne and Newmar, to the couple whom I dedicated this poem many moons ago, I again revisit these poems for you today on your wedding day. Cheers to a happy and satisfying couplehood...
