ANOTHER Top Only-in-Sagada finds
ANOTHER Top Only-in-Sagada finds. You'll
1. SEE this Old Man with coffee irises carved out of the stump
2. HAVE Free Cabbage that weighs 3-4 kilos a piece (Thank you Labanet)
3. SIGN up for pottery sesh & find yourself guarded by a fat black cat which reminded me of Netflix's The Time That Remains which stars Carlo Aquino as a Pinoy vampire who started as a black cat with many lives
4. FIND not only Hanging Coffins but also Nestled Coffins on the cracks & crevices of the karsts
5. ENJOY backyard bonfire because branches/wood of pine trees were used and the smoke smelled like Frankincense and we all became smoked gals after. This bonfire is reminiscent of the Mang-aapoy (or Panag-aapoy / Panagdedenet) tradition of the Indigenous Igorot community where they light a bonfire beside the tombs of their loved ones on Nov 1 as they believe it provides warmth and light to the souls, comforting them and keeping their spirits close.
6. FIND Phallic Ashtrays as pasalubong (well, yes, just like in Baguio) BUT Phallic symbols in Mountain Province are the Alab Petroglyphs, ancient prehistoric rock art located in Bontoc, the capital of the province which features approximately 200 figures engraved on a large, remote mountainside boulder. The carvings, dates back at least 1500 BC, depict human genitalia and used for ancient fertility rites
7. EAT beef tapa with lots of onions or rather, Red Onion Rings with beef tapa
8. Blue Soil, who would forget a sight of this unique soil color?
9. CHECK the Anglican Church housing Christ in Crucifixion that secretly has six toes on a foot.
10. FIND OUT Homestays don't provide aircons or fans in Sagada but strawberries are well ventilated
11. WATCH OUT FOR "Momma" which means another thing. It's this chewed red spit which is the end result after chewing on the "nga nga," a quid made of a slice betel nut, a pinch of apog, and tobacco (can be optional) leaf all wrapped in betel leaf. Nga nga is chewed for energy, staving off hunger, and keeping the body warm in the cool mountain climate.
12. GET AMAZED. Ordinary structures from the outside but once you enter a homestay, a resto, a restroom anteroom, they are all made of expensive wood, most likely pine woods.
