Summons of the Big Apple (A poem by Gerlie Uy)

Summons of The Big Apple
By Gerlie Uy
5.15.24

I don't like to take a bite,
I said it once, and I can say it twice.
Just visit
and catch the subway
with an altar of poetry inside;
Enter
the mausoleum of Chagall
with his own tale of not liking any bite
in his masterpiece, The Village and I;
Just walk
inside the cathedrals
of letters,
words,
sounds,
trails of greens
and wonder
when shall you bite.
Walk with strangers
until you eat with them;
Brave the seasons
until you are seasoned.
You don't like to take a bite,
You said it once,
and you can always take it back twice.
