Island Garden City of Samal: Twofies at the enchanting Hagimit Falls

No rush can keep us from having our memorable sisters' twofies. 

Hagimit Falls is interesting. First, we have a barangay in my hometown named Haguimit which has a man-made swimming pool with waters coming from the local spring. Second, the photos all over the website is amazing; I just can't get it out of my list of places to go despite the beach temptations. My verdict: the Hagimit falls are not gigantic but they are a series of brief falls that rush to many basins. It is a zen place for me. The paved steps down the falls from the entrance is quite a good walk experience because of the lush forest trees. While we were rushing to beat the imminent sunset, we were not oblivious of the beauty Hagimit falls. Since, this is located just near the Maxima Aqua Fun in the Penaplata District of Samal City, these twin sites are highly recommended for those who look for a one-day Samal experience.

However, for a quick historical note as to how Hagimit Falls came to be open and accessible to the public, please see the resort's inspired memories.

"The late Fortunato Batucan, Sr. a hardworking husband of Lola Goyang, a father of 14 children cultivated this place as early as 1950’s. Unfortunately, he passed away by a struck of a killer lightning.

After his untimely death, his son named Glicerio Batucan, Sr. took over the footsteps of his father and continue cultivating this place.  Besides, he even ventures local business like sari-sari store, passenger jeepney, and operated a few motorized boats bearing  the name “Eagle” transporting passenger and cargo from Samal to Davao and vice versa.

He also served as maintenance plumber of the defunct Nawasa, a water system operated by local government of former Municipality of Samal which provide water supply in Poblacion of Penaplata, which he dutifully been a repairman for many years in the main source (tinubdan) of Hagimit

Being a local trader and a carpenter, he gained a lot of friends.  He pleased to serve his friends with fresh water prawns known as “uwang” which he personally caught from the deep portion of water in Hagimit Falls especially in the underwater caves.  He used to  do this again and again until his last dive was on the 7th day of May 1969 where he was retrieved by his best friend Jacinto Ligan and others in the underwater caves lifeless.

Notwithstanding of the unfortunate death of thier beloved father, the unforgettable memories and good deeds of their father continually beat the heart of every living heirs, an inspiration cometh into the mind and heart of one of his siblings, an interest to nourish those memories of her ancestor, to continue and fulfill their dreams.  She visualized that the beauty of this place will extend beyond island boundaries and nurtures this place into a healthy living legacy down to every generation.

Again, we welcome you all, enjoy the adventure, feel the freshness of the moisturized breath of Hagimit Falls, and embrace God’s Perfect Gift of Nature to the Samalinos."

Is this a Philippine Wisteria?

    Crossing my fingers. This is a Philippine Wisteria. Got this marcoted/grafted plant when Bartering was still a fad and when plants are fashionable. Thank you Summer and Rain's Garden in La Carlota City. I was so flabbergasted that I have a potted Wisteria, a Philippine Wisteria, I was told. I tried growing wisteria from seeds bought online but they did not reward me anything but frustration.  Voila! In less than a year when it was given to me, my wisteria produced flowers. The plant first shed off its leaves and grew new sets of leaves and the buds. Purple it came this March in time for the Women's Month Celebration. Isn't that sweet coincidence?       Wisteria can grow high and wave its flowers like rain showers. Blooming wisteria in most photos can be magical and much prettier than cherry blossoms. TIKUM KADLUM (The Enchanted Dog, The First of the Ten Epics of Panay Bukidnon)

At the house. One day, Bulawanon engaged the help of Tikum Kadlum, a hunting dog with the gift of sensing the spirits, in cooking rice for his husband Paiburong and his brother Dumaraog who will be going hunting. When the rice was cooked, the brothers ate fast. Then, while Bulawanon packed the betel nut for her husband, Paiburong and Dumaraog dressed themselves, with Dumaraog suggesting they match their sashes and belts, since he is his brother's loyal protector.
